Ponderings on The Handmaid’s Tale
Anyone ever wonder what it would look like if *any* rigid ideology took over a society and completely stripped away the rights of those with female bodies (amongst others)? Yeah, I never felt the need to think about it until I experienced my own autonomy being restricted/threatened.
Sadly, it took those experiences for me to realize that not only was my autonomy being legislated and decided by people who have no business making such decisions for people like me – but so many others around me have been exposed to similar (and often worse) restrictions – and for so much longer, and will likely remain at so much more risk, than I would be (e.g. not having access to alternative resources to get at least some needs met).
With legislative/societal barriers still being instituted prohibiting women [every female-bodied person of all ages and to varying degrees] the access to the reproductive healthcare that they know is best for them…this topic is worth contemplating.
